Last Week

I am getting stressed because finals are in less than a week and I haven’t really had the time to be studying because my classes all had ending projects and papers before the final. Also after looking at my grades… could still technically fail all my classes because the finals count for a large percentage of the overall grade and with all the last minute papers and projects that were assigned, their is no way I will know what my grade is going into the final. This is much different than in high school because everyone would try and figure out what they needed to get on the final in order to get an A or B, or how low they could score and keep the grades you have. But, because of the timing of some big projects I will have no idea what i would need to keep the grade I have, or to increase my grade. In many of my classes, the last week of the course accounts for 20-25 percent of the class’s overall grade. I just really need to start working on the study guides given to me and review problems from my books and hope for the best because I do not really know what to expect because this is my first college semester.

Finals !!!!??

Final Exams are approaching and i am not sure how to feel. Should I be anxious, nervous, excited or stressed? As of right now I have a little bit of all of these feelings. I just want the semester to come to an end so I can be on Christmas Break, but I know I am not quite ready to take final exams next week. At my high school we had final exams but they were usually pretty short, and we would review for the entire week ahead of time. So coming into college final exams is a little scary. I don’t know what to expect and how much i will need to study for the tests as well as how the timing will go because I will have two hours to complete each of my exams. This more than double the class length so I don’t know if the teachers will make the tests really long in order to fill he time slot, or if we will be getting out pretty early. I hope I am able to finish my math exam quickly so i have time to review for history that starts fifteen minutes later.

V for Vendetta Summary on activism

The movie V for Vendetta takes place in the United Kingdom. The government has a strong hold over the people, and rule using fear and terrorism like tactics. The people in this nation are afraid to go against the ruling powers and stand up for the injustices taking place. It seems to me like they just sit back and do nothing because either they are too afraid to speak up, or since the injustices aren’t affecting them, they may believe it is not that big of a problem.

The main character V is an activist and makes the decision to go against the ruling powers in government, and stand for the people who are too afraid to stand up for themselves; no matter what the consequences are. V said something in the movie to the effect of “People should not fear the government, but the government should fear the people.” To me this means that people should not feel like the government is controlling them against their will. They should have a say of how their nation is run.

V’s main goal was to get people talking and become involved in the political process and have the more control given to the people. He wanted them to stick up for what they believed in and make a difference instead of hiding and going with what everyone in the current government system was telling them. He decided to go through extremes to get his message across but I guess in certain circumstances you have to get your point across ad he wanted to make “the 5^th of November a day to remember,” by blowing up parliament.

This an extreme way to get his message across but by taking over all media forms he was able to explain to people why he decided to do this. He got his point across and MADE people listen to him. This is activism to the extreme but it worked because it got the message out to the people and made them think and hopefully take actions and fight the wrongs.

THE WEEKEND

This weekend has been so much fun. On friday night I went to a formal dance with a bunch of my friends from my dorm for campus crusade. It was fun getting dressed up with a group of girls and going to a dance; it reminded me of high school. The dance lasted for three hours at the lodge in heuston woods and afterwards we went to someone’s house and watched a Christmas movie. It was a lot more fun just relaxing and hanging out with friends rather than the every weekend thing of going out to parties and dance clubs on the weekends.

As of right now I am waiting at the Goggin Ice arena to watch the hockey team take on Notre Dame for the second day in a row. Last night they won and I am really excited to watch this game tonight. I arrived here with my friend Erin at about 2 PM and the game starts after 7. Hopefully we will be able to get seats in the students section, because the last game i came to we had to wait until after the first quarter and then sit in empty seats in the parent section.

INQUIRY 4 PROJECT

I was having a very hard time with this project because I as worried that no one would leave comments. After over a week of having the blog up I only had on comment (from myself), not exactly what I was hoping for. Then I switched my idea from a blog on wordpress to a facebook group because then I could invite people and send out messages and notifications plus the audience would mainly be people my own age which is what I was aiming for. After three days of having the facebook group I had 12 comments and they were actual thought provoking ones not people trying to be funny and unhelpful. Since People I am not friends with on Facebook would be unable to view my blog I decided then to make a powerpoint video. At the end of the video I included slides of the comments left on my group blog because that is how this whole thing got started.

Thanksgiving Break

Thanksgiving Break was so much fun. I was able to spend time with family and friends and still have some time to myself. I wish I was able to go home sooner but because of CSA I had to stay at school four extra days. All my other classes were cancelled or I could have skipped. We had a Thanksgiving Dinner at my house on Thursday. It was nice to see all the family at one time. On Friday I went shopping early to get good deals. I woke really early and was on the road by 5 AM. We went to several stores and waited in the outrageous lines, but it really starts off the Christmas season. And, to top it off, it began to snow!!!! but it only lasted for twenty minutes or so. On Saturday I saw Twilight at the theatre with my parents and then went out to lunch with friends from high school. After lunch we went shopping at the mall. Later that night I went with my best friend to see The Blind Side, the new movie with Sandra Bullock. It was really cute and sad and at some parts I cried but a little over an hour into the movie the projector bulb died out and since it was 1:30AM no one working knew how to change it. So, they just stopped the movie and gave all of us free tickets. I really wanted to see the ending but now I will have to wait until I go back home, if the movie is still in theaters then. I came back to Miami on Sunday and the drive took twice as long as it usually does because of holiday traffic and several accidents; the rain probably didn’t help either.

Things that are important to consider are mainly to effort that is put into the project. Since this is creative project their should be a component about creativity. Their should also be a part about how good you presentation looks or sounds. Since they will all be different I hope that mot of the grade given for this project will be on effort and hard work because I will work hard on the project but i do not know yet how it will turn out. Especially because my project is based HUGHLY on participation of others.

This semester has just flown by. I can not believe that my first semester of college is almost over. I am exited to get into the new classes and get a change in routine. I feel that I am getting lazy because of everyday non-changing routine. I really have to “kick it into gear,” as my parents would say, because my grades on some of my classes have started slipping. I need to be the best position possible going into finals since I do not really know what to expect. I had final exams in high school but we would have a whole week to review and they were not worth near as much of ones final grade. BUT, I am really excited about going home an seeing my family for Thanksgiving Break!!!!!!!!

Project 4

I am nervous about the fourth inquiry because the topic i have chosen is very dependent on the participation of many people. So far my idea is starting a public blog on facebook and on wordpress and have people blog about their ideas and thoughts about “paying it forward.” They could write about good deeds they do for other people or deeds that other people have done for them. People could also just blog about what they think about the idea. This topic seemed like a good idea but it is quite risky in the fact that I will have to rely on the participation of others. I don’t know of anyone who goes online to blog just for the sake of blogging. But, I guess we will have to see. I might have to rework the idea and change the format of the blog. Maybe I will do the blogging and people can just leave comments. I guess I have a lot of decisions to make really soon!

Guerilla warfare

This reading was very interesting for me. It was cool to see how different artists express themselves and show how they feel. They were able to put messages on almost any surface and see how people reacted to their ideas. I wish i was that creative, to come up with a picture that has meaning to more than just yourself and in figuring out how to spread a message. These artists did not care what others thought of them, as long as they could get their message out there. I found it really cool that a few of the people from he story did their paintings on top of older graffiti. I wish i was that artistic.
